Anna Leigh Ashford

Annaleigh Amanda Ashford (born April 14, 1980) was an American actor, singer as well as a dancer. The first Broadway roles are Wicked Legally Blonde & Hair. The actress was awarded the Tony Award for Best Featured actor in the Play to play Essie Carmichael from You Can't Take It With You. Tony Award-winning actress Annaleigh Ashford is a veteran of the majority of her time working with some of the most acclaimed actors and directors in stage film and television and she continues that award-winning work with several upcoming projects. Ashford's next venture will be a limited edition Hulu series called Welcome to Chippendales, created by Robert Siegel. The show debuts on November 22 and Ashford is starring alongside Kumail Najiani. Ashford is currently engaged in the production of Searchlight Pictures' horror film Dust which stars Sarah Paulson alongside Ebon and Moss Bachrach. The film is an Hulu Original and will be streaming on Disney DTC. Ashford will return to Broadway on March 20, 2023 with the role of Josh Groban opposite Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd. The production takes place located at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Thomas Kail (director) and Jeffrey Seller (producer), the same duo who produced Hamilton, will direct the show. Ashford played Paula Jones, the main role in Ryan Murphy's latest FX show American Crime Story Impeachment. It is based upon the scandal that brought Paula Jones Monica Lewinsky Linda Tripp along with other key characters in the first impeachment trial in the United States in more than 100 years. She was the star of two seasons on CBS Comedy B Positive. It was produced by Chuck Lorre with Marco Pennette. The show featured Linda Lavin, Hector Elizondo, as well as Ben Vereen. Ashford is no stranger to Broadway. Her performance as Essie in You Can't Take It with You won her the Tony Drama Desk Awards and Outer Critics Circle Awards. The actress has also performed on Broadway in Sunday in the Park With George Wicked, Legally Blonde as well as the original role of Lauren as Lauren in Kinky Boots for which she received a nomination for a Tony Award. Born and raised in Denver Ashford is now dividing the time in Los Angeles and New York.
